Are you concerned about declining bee populations and want to make a difference?
If you want to support a local bee hive and receive the benefits without the work. Our host a hive option is for you!
What is the best reason to host a hive?
- Learn about honeybees, pollinators, and the plants they thrive on.
- Support pollinators and strengthen local ecosystems.
- Participate in on-site beekeeping opportunities with our Certified Beekeeper.
- You will also get between 5lbs and 10lbs of honey each year that you host a hive.
What does it cost to host a hive?
$595 per year
We understand that is a lot for 5lbs of honey ($100 at our current price) why is it so much?
Our cost to start a hive Includes:
- One nucleolus colony of Italian bees
- 10 Frame Equipment
- Bottom Board
- Deep 10 frame box with frames
- Inner and Telescoping cover
- Bee feed and treatments for the year
- Beekeeper fees and inspections
- Loaner Bee Suits and Gloves (for use when visiting the apiary)
Where is the hive I am hosting located?
All hives remain in Bee Centric Apiary’s managed bee yards across Johnston Co. North Carolina for optimal care and resources.
For bee health, we do not place hives at individual homes. You’re welcome to visit by appointment.
For those who cannot visit we will send out email updates with pictures of your hive to see the progress throughout the year.
Who will take care of the bees?
Our resident certified beekeeper and team handle all hive care. You are always welcome to participate in our scheduled hive days. Special appointments available upon request.
When do I get my honey?
In the fall you will receive honey straight from your hive. If your hive doesn’t produce enough surplus honey, which is normal for the first year the hive is established, do not worry. We’ll supplement from one of our other hives in the same apiary.
